3 Yard Pests to Watch Out For
If you have recently moved into your first house after living in an apartment for most of your life, you may find yourself overwhelmed with everything that is different about living in a house. One of the biggest differences is that you are now also responsible for taking care of your outdoor space and yard. And unfortunately, pests sometimes come along with that outdoor space.
Get to know some of the pests to watch out for in and around your yard. Then, you can be sure to contact one of your local pest control companies right away at the first sign of pest trouble in your yard.
Ants
While ants are often an inevitable part of nature, they do not need to be an inevitable part of your back or front yard space. Ants can be quite problematic, especially depending on what type of ants you have infesting your yard.
If you notice a lot of anthills, particularly anywhere near your house, you will want to call a pest control company. They will be able to determine what type of ants you have and how damaging they might be to your yard and home. For example, large black ants may be carpenter ants. These ants tend to dine on wood and can do a great deal of structural damage to a home. You want to get rid of these ants right away to avoid such issues.
Termites
Termites are another yard pest to be on the lookout for. Termites, like carpenter ants, feed on wood. As such, they are likely to be found in debris in your yard or firewood piles. They are small insects but have long bodies and can be either black or reddish.
If you are not sure if you have termites, you should still contact a pest control company for help if you've seen signs such as wood that looks partially eaten, or piles of what appears to be sawdust around your home or yard. They can look for these and other signs of termites in your yard and your home and act accordingly if you do have a termite infestation. The sooner you deal with such an issue, the less likely they will severely damage your home.
Moles
Moles are little rodents that live underground. While seemingly harmless, they can do a lot of damage to your landscaping and a garden space if you have one. One of the biggest telltale signs of moles in your yard is raised areas of dirt that look like ridges in the lawn. These are the tunnels that they dig under the surface.
Another sign of moles is, of course, a molehill. Molehills are raised circular areas of dirt in the yard potentially with a noticeable hole in the middle. Moles will tear up an entire yard if given the chance; they should be dealt with as soon as possible by pest professionals.
Now that you know more about some of the yard pests to watch out for, you can be sure you are doing everything you can to take care of your yard now and in the future.
